d-oh!

My wife and I saw The Simpsons Movie last Saturday over at Gateway Mall, and what can I say? It's the most fun we had since maybe Meet the Fockers from two, three years ago. Hell, I even feel like scoring a DVD copy of the movie -- pirated, of course, screw Edu Manzano -- so that I can watch it over and over again until "Spider-pig" is bursting out of my nose.

Anyway, the flu had left my head feeling awfully swimmy. Writing is a freakout: I can't seem to string sentences together to make a decent paragraph. I've deadlines galore and most of them had come and gone and somewhere out there is a pissed off boss choking his secretary for my number. I'm glancing at my cellphone nervously. What the hey!

review

Here's a review of L na L courtesy of Multiply blogger Dennis Mendoza. Perhaps it will score more credibility if he's not actually my friend, but if you know Dennis, who goes around calling himself Ill Diablo, you know kissing his friends' bums isn't his style.

And that's it for now. I've just survived a vicious three-day flu funk and my head's in a soup and nothing seems to be working a-ok on my part.

new vox

So 36-year old Swedish Anette Olzon is the new Nightwish vocalist, replacing Tarja Turunen who was unceremoniously kicked out of the band months ago. I'm listening to Amaranth right now, the single from the Finnish group's forthcoming album, Dark Passion Play, and although Anette's no Tarja (she sounds more like Cristina Scabbia to me), I'd say I like what I'm hearing. But of course these ears will miss Tarja's operatic croonings. Somehow, listening to Nightwish without Tarja takes getting used to.

monkey

We've quite a backyard in our place, with trees and vegetation and stuff, and I've seen strange creatures in it - from toads the size of a full grown man's head to a swarm of dive-bombing honeybees to snakes four feet long. But this? (Pardon the blurry image; photography is not my shit.)

I don't know if he belongs to somebody in our neighborhood, but my wife and I took the liberty of calling him Jolly Cur, from that monkey character in the long-ago ABS-CBN cartoon, Remy. We are very fond of our Jolly Cur, even though we know the feeling isn't mutual.
