loss

Our dog, Hershey, barely six months old, succumbed yesterday to canine parvovirus, a particularly deadly disease among puppies, about 80% fatal. She spent Thursday and Friday nights in an animal clinic; on Saturday we received an early morning call from the vet telling us that Hershey's in "grave danger." My wife and I skipped breakfast and sped off to the clinic, but it was too late. Hershey was still warm when we arrived. Blood was dripping from her mouth and nose. Her eyes were half-open. It was a heartbreaking sight.

I wish I'm one of those people who, though not exactly cruel to animals, are just indifferent to them. Those who would look at a dead pet, shake their heads, mutter "Kawawa naman," then go on with their lives as if nothing happened. Those who could say, "Para aso lang e." Perhaps that way I wouldn't be as deeply troubled and affected as I am today. *Sigh.*
